How To Replace Pull Cord On Stihl Hedge Trimmer

If you’re like most homeowners, you probably dread having to take your stihl hedge trimmer out of storage each time you need to use it. Unfortunately, the pull cord can often become tangled up, making it difficult and frustrating to use. In this article, we’ll show you how to replace the pull cord on your stihl hedge trimmer in just a few easy steps.

Unplug hedge trimmer

If the hedge trimmer has a pull cord, unplug it from the power source and remove the blade.

If the hedge trimmer does not have a pull cord, remove the battery cap and unscrew the motor cover. Remove the motor. If there is a gearbox, remove it by turning it anti-clockwise. If there is no gearbox, remove the two screws that hold the motor housing to the frame.

Check that all of the gears and shafts are well-greased and reattach any parts that were removed. Replace the blade if necessary.

Replace the motor cover and screw it in place. Reinstall the battery cap and screw it in place. Replace the blade if necessary. Plug in your hedge trimmer and turn on power supply.

Conclusion

If your pull cord on your stihl hedge trimmer is broken or frayed, it’s time to replace it. Here are instructions on how to do just that:

1) Remove the carburetor plate by unscrewing the four screws at the top and pulling it off.

2) On the bottom of the engine, there will be a cable connected to a spring-loaded handle. Unclip the cable from the handle and set it aside.

3) Lift up on the uppermost part of the engine cover – this is where you’ll find two Phillips head screws (one in front, one in back). Once these screws are removed, lift off the cover.

4) Underneath this cover is a wire mesh guard that covers two spindles. Carefully unscrew these spindles using a wrench or pliers so that they can be removed.

5) Access to the pull cord is now available – remove it by unhooking it from its bracket and pulling outwards until it comes free from its housing. Make sure not to lose any of its components – they include both ends of the cord as well as some springs.
